Hypnosis- an explanation

Have you ever seen a child when it has fallen over and the parents might say “let me rub it better”, the child is relieved, and that is hypnosis. Do you drive?....... have you ever got somewhere and cannot remember the traffic lights? That is hypnosis. Like driving the car if anything was to happen that required your attention or was dangerous you would be able to react appropriately. That is because your conscious mind will sometimes switch off and allow you to be on auto-pilot, but it will never let you knowingly be in danger. You have a built in safety valve that means your mind will not let anything happen to you that can harm you, in any way. Unless you consciously choose to.

If you can imagine your conscious mind is where we process our lives, it is a cog whirring quickly in your mind. Your subconscious mind is another cog going much slower, it is dealing with important functions which we don’t think about, breathing, blinking, and storing information and emotions. Sometimes information and emotions that are stored there are pop through when you least expect it and you get to re-live that emotion. For example you meet someone in the street and you instantly like them. There is no reason for this, it is just the emotions you felt when you knew someone, and they reminded you of them. You just not realise this.

The hypnotherapists should allow you to slow down the cogs so that they are turning at the same speed. This allows thoughts to pass between your conscious and subconscious. So if you have anything that worries you, or there are things that you just don’t like and you think “that’s just the way I am” the answer to why is in your subconscious. A skilled hypnotist can guide you to the cause and like anything once you understand you can deal with it.

Hypnosis relaxes you allowing you to feel comfortable to say anything that is in you subconscious mind, things that you may not tell even your closest friend. It is a safe environment where anything a person stays is confidential. No judgements are made and it allows you to release your most personal feelings and emotions. This allows you to move on, but in a direction you wish to go.

Suggestions can be given which will go into the subconscious mind; they will only be accepted if they are not in conflict with what you really want to happen. We help with motivation and release negative emotions that are stored giving you the tools to change if you wish.

Who cannot be hypnotised....

Hypnosis- an explanation

Stage Hypnotists

Is you only experience of hypnotism that of the stage hypnotist?

Did you enjoy the show?

What you have to remember is that it is precisely that - a good show.

These hypnotists are skilled in their art; it works mainly on personality theory.

Would you go on stage? Why?

Only people who are prepared for what is in store will go on stage. What a great excuse to be silly in public. Millions of people are hypnotised on stage every week and I don’t believe that even one clucks like a chicken when they have left that stage.

And they don’t have to remember a thing!!!!!
